Dexter is a Boy Genius who runs a secret laboratory behind a bookcase in his bedroom, which contains a vast world of highly advanced inventions, concoctions and machines. He manages to keep the lab secret from his typical all-American parents, but can't seem to manage to keep his happy-go-lucky older sister, Dee Dee out. She serves as a foil to his exploits, and whenever she's around, something in the lab is bound to break. Despite this rocky relationship, the two love each other as any sibling would, as she gives him good advice at times, and he will immediately jump to her aid when she's in danger. Dexter also does his best to stop the evil plans of rival boy genius Mandark.
